In this, ‘How-To,’ I’ll walk you through how to make these perfectly fluffy Savory Steel Cut Oats. The lesser utilized sibling in the oat family, steel cut oats don’t get nearly as much credit as they should.
Savory Steel Cut Oats are great for meal prep because once they’re made you can use them as you would any other grain – in stir frys, as a side, for buddha bowls, you name it! My favorite is with eggs in the morning but they also taste great if you add them to bean or tabbouleh salads.
The other great thing? They take one pot and less than 30 minutes to make!
Ready to learn how to cook these Savory Steel Cut Oats? All you need to do is add all of your ingredients to a pot, cover, bring to a boil, and then simmer (covered) for 20 minutes.
Once the oats have cooked, you will want to take them off the heat and they should look like the picture on the left (below). Let the oats rest covered for 10 minutes and then fluff with a fork, at which point they should look like the picture on the right (below) and be ready to use.
The end result gets you Savory Steel Cuts Oats that are:
- slightly chewy
- perfectly fluffy
- great for meal prep
- quick and easy to make
